The remotely and intelligently installed system was developed based on Zoomlion’s unmanned tower crane project with the support of Henan Telecom’s advanced 5G technology. The system enables intelligent remote control that replaces previous operations at high altitude or at ground level. It has closed the gap in the intelligent remote lifting of tower cranes, promoted the recovery of tower cranes, modified the design method, improved the operator’s working environment, and reduced labor intensity to ensure personal safety.
The system consists of four state-of-the-art systems:
- All-round video surveillance system: It enables all-round and multi-angle observation of the crane movement and the surrounding area (including blind spots), which improves ease of use and ensures construction safety;
- Visualized intelligent tracking system of the tower crane hook: This system consisting of infrared cameras and digital sensors improves the lifting accuracy and effectively reduces hidden safety risks during the lifting process;
- Digital tower crane status monitoring system: the various sensors can monitor and display all parameters including boom height, wind speed, temperature and humidity, and can predict movement traces to avoid danger and protect operator safety;
- Anti-collision and intelligent dispatch system: It takes advantage of the low latency and stability of the 5G network, uses binocular cameras and combines AI and computer vision technologies to achieve obstacle detection within 10 meters of the hook.
Driven by Zoomlion’s “Product 4.0A” strategy, the company has successfully applied 5G technology to tower cranes, cranes, pump trucks and excavators, as well as the company’s smart upgrades to its production lines and smart factories.
Going forward, Zoomlion will ceaselessly work with top 5G companies to accelerate its digital transformation and modernization, to build world-class smart factories, and to further promote smart upgrades of its products.
