Manitowoc cranes

Wagstaff Crane wasn’t always what it is today. Founded in 1963 by HR and Evelyn Wagstaff, the company started with a small crane and a mission.

The mission was simple: to offer crane rentals across Utah. Now in 2021, the Wagstaff crane is expanding with the purchase of Bronson Crane, a Potain self-erecting tower crane dealer in the suburbs of Salt Lake City.

Wagstaff will acquire all of Bronson’s assets and business functions from owner Earl Bronson, thereby expanding its capabilities to customers in Utah. The company will continue to operate under its existing name, but will now operate from the Wagstaff building in Murray, Utah.

“We are excited to join Wagstaff and look forward to continuing to support our customers with their projects,” said Earl Bronson. “We have worked hard over the years to build this company and develop this important market.

“We are confident that we will continue to grow with Wagstaff and expand self-erecting crane construction.”

This is not the first exchange between the two companies. The companies have worked closely together for several years.

The acquired company, Bronson Crane, has been a self-erecting Potain crane dealer since 2008 and the top dealer in the country since 2011. During Bronson Crane’s time, the company developed lasting relationships with key customers.

Years of hard work have made the company a leader in the commercial timber frame and masonry market.

Bronson Crane’s services and product offerings complement Wagstaff Crane’s extensive fleet. Together, the Bronson and Wagstaff operations will now offer training and certification for NCCCO crane operators on their premises – another win for Wagstaff.

“We have had the most complete line of hydraulic cranes in Intermountain West for nearly 60 years,” said Jim Wagstaff. “During that time, we’ve operated virtually every type of Manitowoc mobile crane there is.

“Now is the time to take our services even further by taking the logical next step and adding the Potain range of tower cranes.”
