Earlier this year, Utah-based Wagstaff Crane Service acquired the tower crane sales and rental company Bronson Crane from founder Earl Bronson. Both companies are located in the suburbs of Salt Lake City with Wagstaff in Murray and Bronson in nearby West Jordan.

The two companies have been working together for several years and have free product lines. Wagstaff operates an extensive fleet of all-terrain cranes with a 750-tonne Liebherr LTM 1750, a modest crawler crane fleet with a 300-tonne Liebherr LR1300 SX, rough terrain with up to 100 tons, as well as jib trucks and deck cranes.

Bronson, on the other hand, specializes in tower crane rental and has been a self-erecting Potain crane dealer since 2008 and the top dealer in the country since 2011. The company operates a pure Potain rental fleet of self-erecting and high-revolving tower cranes.

As part of the deal, Wagstaff will acquire all of Bronson’s assets and business functions from owner founder Earl Bronson. Bronson Crane will continue to operate under its existing name, but will now operate from the Wagstaff building in Murray. The company in Bronson / Wagstaff now also offers training and certification for NCCCO crane operators on its premises.

Wagstaff was founded in 1963 by HR and Evelyn Wagstaff with a small crane and a plan to rent cranes across the Rocky Mountain region. Today the company is owned by Ron and Jim Wagstaff and is distributed throughout the company by several other Wagstaff family members.

Earl Bronson said, “We are excited to join Wagstaff and continue to support our customers with their projects. We have worked hard over the years to build this company and develop this important market. We are confident that we will continue to grow with Wagstaff and expand self-erecting crane construction. ”

Jim Wagstaff added, “For nearly 60 years we have had the most complete line of hydraulic cranes in Intermountain West. During that time we have operated virtually every type of Manitowoc mobile crane there is. Now is the time to expand our services even further by taking the logical next step and adding the Potain range of tower cranes. ”
