KUALA LUMPUR (March 29): The work to stabilize the structure and remove the gantry crane at the construction site of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang high-speed expressway (SUKE) on which three Chinese nationals were involved in an incident in Alam Damai, Cheras, you were killed two weeks.
Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) announced in a statement yesterday that the first stage of gantry crane removal and repairs began on Saturday after receiving approval from the Department of Safety and Health at Work (DOSH).
“The work includes two phases, the stabilization of the U-girder structure, which today shows an advance of 60%, before the work to remove the gantry crane begins,” the statement said.
The statement indicated that the whole process was complicated as it had to take into account various aspects including the technical aspects, the work processes, the weather and safety of residents and construction workers, and the condition of the structure.
SUKE is also working with professional engineering firms, government agencies including the Malaysian Highway Authority, DOSH and the Construction Industry Development Board on the repair work.
SUKE said in a statement on Saturday that they had prepared a parking lot, pedestrian walkways and a shuttle bus for residents of the Puncak Banyan condominium and those nearby who were affected by the incident.
In the 8:30 a.m. incident, three Chinese nationals were killed while a driver was seriously injured when a component of a gantry crane collapsed at the SUKE construction site near Puncak Banyan, Persiaran Alam Damai, Cheras.
