The Port of Cork’s impressive ship-to-shore gantry cranes have been positioned in a new, state-of-the-art facility.
In 2020, the Port of Cork took delivery of two Ship to Shore (STS) gantry cranes for the new state-of-the-art port facility Cork Container Terminal in Ringaskiddy.
The cranes were built by Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd in Killarney and assembled on site under the supervision of expert Liebherr engineers.
They have a range of 45m, a back range of 15m and a lifting height over rail of 32m.
A ship-to-shore gantry crane is the most important piece of equipment in any container port that is used to lift containers between ship and shore.
The new cranes are equipped with the latest energy-saving Liebherr Liduro drives, safety functions and power management systems.
With a safe working load of 54 tons, the cranes will ensure that the port has the lifting and reach capacity to service even the largest container ships that will call at Cork Container Termina.
Once operational, the Cork Container Terminal will provide the fastest, most reliable and cost effective container service to Ireland’s local businesses and international exporters.
