Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – One person was injured in a crane accident at Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG on Tuesday afternoon.

A video posted to KPLC and circulated on Facebook shows an overturning crane. The video has since been removed from Facebook.

A Venture Global spokeswoman provided KPLC with the following information:

“This afternoon a crane was damaged in a sudden storm at Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass site. One person was injured in the incident and was taken to hospital for investigation and observation according to the site’s security protocols. Your injuries are not life threatening. There was no further impairment of the site as a result of this event. “

An engineer who worked in construction spoke to KPLC and said that an accident like this doesn’t just happen from the wind.

“The times before it happened were inexperienced operators. That was all. Nothing… wasn’t wind, nothing but inexperienced operators who weren’t careful. ”Sonny Mason, retired heavy machinery operator, said.

Mason said that after watching the video he thinks he can tell what went wrong.

“It was too straight up and he pulled his tip back. He pulled it back and all the weights on the boom, and the boom buckled at the base because it was straight up, ”Mason said.

KPLC will provide more information as it becomes available.
