A 1,000 ton mobile crane overturned yesterday in the port of Middlesbrough, UK, damaging two other cranes.
The crane owned and operated by Sarens is apparently the 1,000-ton Liebherr LTM 11000 D with a rope-sprung telescopic boom. It worked with its lattice derrick boom installed when it was driven over and damaged one of Sarens’ other all terrain cranes that was working alongside while the boom and rear mast also crashed into one of the port’s Gottwald mobile harbor cranes.
The port is operated by AV Dawson, who confirmed that the crane was in use for one of its tenants on site and that no one was seriously injured in the incident. The emergency services were called and helped to contain fuel and oil leaks from the cranes.
We have asked AV Dawson for a comment and have not yet received a response, despite a statement saying, “We take health and safety very seriously and we have strict security controls on all third parties who work on our website. We will now work closely with Sarens to support them in their internal and external investigations. “
This is all we have been able to determine for sure so far, along with two blurry photos we received today. As soon as we learn more, we will of course update this article.
