• After positive experiences with the predecessor GMK4100L, Kanson Crane & Heavy Transport relied on the performance of the Grove GMK4100L-1 model

  • The cranes have a compact design and high performance, and Kanson will be using them on construction projects across Hong Kong.

Hong Kong-based heavy equipment rental company Kanson Crane & Heavy Transport (Kanson) has added three new Grove GMK4100L-1 all-terrain cranes to its fleet. The company ordered the units based on previous experience with its GMK4100L units, the predecessor of the GMK4100L-1.

Two of the cranes arrived in May and the third was delivered in July. All are used for a variety of tasks in the busy Hong Kong cityscape, including erecting tower cranes and general construction work.

Nelson Kan, managing director of Kanson, said he knew how well the GMK4100L-1 models would work before they even hit the market.

“We looked at the data from the GMK4100L-1 and were impressed with its capacity and the improvements in the load diagrams, as well as its compact design,” he explains. “But to be honest, we didn’t really study the crane carefully before placing the order. We had such good experiences with our Grove cranes, and especially with the GMK4100L cranes, that we knew they would be a good fit for our rental fleet. ”

Kanson has been a Grove customer for over 10 years and received its first GMK4100L units in 2019. The units have been at full capacity since then. These will remain in the Kanson fleet, with the new GMK4100L-1 additions coming on board to handle the growing workload in the company.

Improvements across the load diagram

The four-axle Grove GMK4100L-1 has the best load capacity tables in its category and a compact design that allows it to enter and maneuver even in the tightest of job sites. The versatile crane also allows users to switch between different counterweight options for more flexible road configurations.

Compared to the GMK4100L, the GMK4100L-1 offers 6.9% better lifting capacity when working with its maximum counterweight of 26.2 t or 9.3% better lifting capacity in the rolling configuration. In addition, with its compact 2.55 m width and 0.5 m shorter overall length, the crane is easier to maneuver than its predecessor. The crane is powered by a single Tier 4 final engine and is equipped with Manitowoc’s crane control system.

Leonard Siow, Manitowoc’s regional sales manager for mobile and crawler cranes, said Kanson’s strong confidence in the product and support offered with Grove cranes was a major factor in this latest order.

“Kanson has been a Grove customer for many years and we are proud to have won your continued trust with this latest shipment,” he said. “We look forward to seeing these new machines in action on the streets of Hong Kong and we will continue to provide the best service and support to ensure that Kanson gets the maximum benefit from these additions. The GMK4100L-1 is a great crane for the crowded and busy downtown areas of Hong Kong, so we are sure that Kanson will be as successful with it as with its other Grove models. ‘

Founded in 1994, Kanson Crane & Heavy Transport is one of the largest crane rental companies in Hong Kong and employs around 130 people. Kanson prides itself on providing dependable service, comprehensive technical support and technologically advanced construction equipment. In addition to the GMK4100L-1 and GMK4100L cranes, Kanson also owns the GMK6400 and GMK6300L.
