CURRENT @ 2 p.m. | A man has died after being hit by a crane in a shop on the northern Gold Coast.

The horror accident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at a location on Stapylton Jacobs Well Road in Stapylton.

A number of rescue workers, including paramedics and the High Acuity Response Unit, rushed to the scene of the accident.

Upon arrival, they found a man aged 40 who was severely crushed.

Despite their desperate attempts to save him, the man could not be resuscitated and still died on the scene.

Occupational health and safety are examined.

EARLIER at 1 p.m. | Rescue workers rushed to the site of a serious work accident on the northern Gold Coast this afternoon.

The accident, which involved a crane and a pedestrian, occurred on Stapylton Jacobs Well Road in Stapylton at around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

A Queensland ambulance spokesman said myGC paramedics and emergency department were treating a man on site.

He is in critical condition, but his exact injuries have not been confirmed.

Initial reports suggest that he may have been run over by the heavy machinery.
