The Liebherr crane will be used for supply and maintenance work on the 900 MW offshore grid connection in the German part of the North Sea, which is scheduled to go into operation in 2024.

The company will supply its RL 2600-35 Lit offshore crane, which is a weight-optimized and compact construction ideal for small platforms with limited space.

The RL 2600-35 Lit offshore crane has a box boom with a maximum reach of 52 meters and a maximum load capacity of 35 tons.

“The crane is ready to be equipped with innovative maintenance functions to meet the demanding requirements of normally unmanned offshore platforms. With its reliable and maintenance-friendly design, the RL 2600-35 Lit will help make the DolWin5 project a success, ”he said Matti Basan, Sales Manager Offshore Cranes at Liebherr.

In 2019, TenneT awarded the Aibel / Keppel FELS consortium an order for the HVDC platform and an onshore converter station for the DolWin5 offshore grid connection. ABB will provide the complete HVDC grid for the 900 MW platform as well as digital products and services for the offshore grid.

The electricity generated by the offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 3 with 900 MW is collected via the DolWin5 grid connection and fed into the German grid.

In 2013 Liebherr delivered two RL 1500 – 35 Lit cranes to Aibel for TenneT’s DolWin Beta platform.
