Liebherr Container Cranes has delivered a new ship for the land container crane to Terminales Maritimas Del Sureste (TMS) in the Spanish port of Alicante.

The crane has a reach from the quay of 46.9 meters, a span of 15.24 meters and a lifting height of 36 meters with a capacity of 50 tons under a single lift spreader.

The crane is an integral part of the port expansion project operated by TMS under a concession granted by the Alicante Port Authority. The enlargement will help equip the port with the necessary infrastructure and equipment to meet future competitive challenges in line with the transport policy promoted by the European Union to cope with the increasing maritime traffic in the Mediterranean.

Ordered in late 2019, the crane was designed and built in Ireland and includes a high strength steel lattice girder and boom that help keep the center of gravity low and optimize weight distribution, ideal for older quays with reduced wheel load capacity.

The new crane has a remote crane management system that enables remote support, service and diagnostics and enables the connection to the TMS control center at the port. The safety features include a traffic light system for controlled traffic flow, laser and mechanical crane-crane anti-collision systems, ulatrasonic anti-collision systems for gantries, as well as laser-boom-ship anti-collision and rocker beam protection systems. The crane was installed by Liebherr Iberica.
