At the end of January, passers-by were treated at a rather rare place in a pedestrian zone in downtown Frankfurt – a 5-axle mobile crane extended its long telescopic boom high above the front of the building. Components of an elevator shaft that had to be installed at the rear of one of the buildings hung on its hook. The red crane was the Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1, which is operated by the Frankfurt crane and heavy-duty transport specialist Autodienst West Ganske GmbH (ADW).

Since the pedestrian zone was the only possible location for the crane, the work had to be carried out on a Sunday. Weekend work is nothing unusual for crane contractors, as they see themselves as service providers who are available to their customers at all times.

One of the challenges was not to damage the intelligent paving stones in the pedestrian zone: Because the supports of the 230-tonne crane from Liebherr can push the ground with up to 113 tons each when in use. The ADW team therefore first laid rubber mats on the pavement before placing four steel load distribution plates, each nine square meters in size, at the intended positions of the crane girders. With these plates, the maximum ground pressure could be limited to 12.5 tons per square meter.

The LTM 1230-5.1 was ballasted with 72 tons of counterweight for this order, as the heavier component of the elevator shaft, which had to be lifted in two parts with a lifting height of 30 meters and a range of 40 meters, still weighed 6.5 tons. The crane and the team carried out the work effortlessly, so that the 60-tonne crane was able to leave the construction site just eight hours later.

The Liebherr LTM 1230-5.1 mobile crane has a 75-meter telescopic boom, which is ideal for working with the boom fully raised and at large hook heights, e.g. B. for erecting tower cranes or for maintenance work on wind turbines. As the order in downtown Frankfurt has shown, this universal crane can also easily carry out orders that require large radii.

Autodienst West Ganske GmbH has more than 75 years of experience as a crane and heavy-duty contractor. The Frankfurt company is now part of the Hüffermann Group, which offers a comprehensive range of crane and heavy-duty logistics services. In addition to mobile and crawler cranes with a lifting capacity of up to 750 tons and tower cranes, the company can also provide truck loading cranes, mini cranes, truck mounted aerial work platforms, heavy installation services, traffic management and glass installation work, transport services for heavy and special loads up to 100 tons, including Transport escort and approval services.
