Konecranes will deliver cranes to one of the world’s largest waste incineration (WtE) plants in Dubai. The contract, signed in December 2020, underscores Konecranes’ commitment to helping customers and industries grow and transform so they can work more efficiently, sustainably and safely. The cranes will be delivered to the site in 2022, with handover in 2024.

An international consortium was selected by the Dubai Municipality for this extraordinary project. The group consists of Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI), Dubai Holding, Dubal Holding, ITOCHU Corporation, BESIX Group and the Tech Group. The contract booked through HZI provides for the delivery of engineering, procurement and construction of the turnkey system as well as an operating and ownership period of the resource recovery system of at least 30 years.

“Konecranes is a professional supplier and we have developed an excellent working relationship with them early on in the project. We value their reliability and global experience, which is essential for such a demanding project. I am confident that this great partnership is the foundation for a successful project, ‘said Eljasa Sinani, Senior Technical Project Manager, Hitachi Zosen Inova.

The facility in Warsan, Dubai, will treat 5,000 tonnes of non-recyclable municipal waste per day, making a total of up to 1,900,000 tonnes per year converted into renewable energy. Konecranes will supply four fully automatic waste-to-energy process cranes with a span of 28 tx 30 m, which are supplied with 18 cuM grabs, and a SMARTON crane with a 65 tx 19 m span for the maintenance of boiler houses. The cranes will contain several smart features from Konecranes that support safety and productivity at the production site, such as: With Konecranes digital services, including TRUCONNECT, crane usage and maintenance can be monitored through the yourKONECRANES customer portal. In addition, the equipment will use the DynaReg feature, which will recycle the electricity generated by the hoists.

A strong customer focus and commitment to business growth and continuous improvement make Konecranes an industry leader in lifting technology. This is underpinned by investments in digitization and technology as well as our work to make the material flow more efficient with solutions that decarbonise the economy and promote circular economy and safety.
