A Thursday auction definitely marks the end of 40 years of business for Jarnel Crane Rental, which has been in Hagerstown for three decades.

“It’s time to sell the business,” said owner Vikki Nelson.

The equipment, real estate and improvements at 221 Rowland Ave. are auctioned on site.

Nelson said the store closed six months ago, but an auction scheduled for March would have to be postponed due to COVID-19 regulations on how many people could be in one place.

The auction on Rowland Avenue, operated by JG Cochran Auctioneers & Associates Ltd. out of Boonsboro includes multiple cranes, forklifts, vehicles and trailers, according to online information.

“There’s heavy equipment, crane equipment, forklift equipment, attachments, crane booms, everything,” Nelson said.

“You have to come and see, that’s all I can say.”

The auction, which starts at 8:00 a.m., includes a property sale at 1:00 p.m. The 1.26 hectare property, which is designated as Industrial Restricted, includes a 9,459 square foot warehouse.

In addition to renting out cranes, Jarnel also carried out forging and decorative metal work. The auction includes large and medium workshop equipment, welding equipment and accessories, wood workshop tools, workshop tools and equipment.

Nelson said before she bought the property it was used for a state road maintenance facility.
