Kingston Wharves Ltd. (KWL), a terminal operator in the port of Kingston, Jamaica, has ordered an eco-efficient Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Crane Model 8 to increase its capacity and efficiency in container handling and to serve Super Post Panamax ships. The order, booked in March 2021, marks KWL’s return as a customer and shows the appreciation of Konecranes quality.
It was time to add new equipment to the existing fleet of KWL Mobile Harbor Cranes at the Kingston terminal. As the port of Kingston becomes a major maritime logistics hub in the Caribbean, customers must have confidence that KWL will maintain the high standards it has established since its inception in 1945. With this in mind, they ordered a Konecranes Gottwald Model 8 crane as it allows them to expand their current container handling capacity and serve larger vessels. The handover is planned for the beginning of December 2021.
“Regional trade is expanding, so this order is part of a comprehensive strategic upgrade of our equipment and systems,” said Mark F. Williams, CEO of KWL. “Our new Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbor crane gives us the performance, reliability and robustness that we expect from such a crane, while also giving us the additional capacity and options that we need for our future growth and development.”
“KWL has been operating four Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes for many years,” says Andreas Moeller, Senior Sales Manager for Konecranes Mobile Harbor Cranes. “The fact that they are returning to us shows their confidence in our relationship and that our cranes are ideal for both their productivity and future growth needs. Our partnership is a model for long-term cooperation and success. “
The new crane is a Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbor crane model 8 in the variant G HMK 8510. With a maximum radius of 61 m, it can serve container ships up to the Super Post Panamax class. Intelligent crane functions in combination with a maximum load capacity of 125 t make it flexible enough to also handle general cargo and heavy project loads. The crane is supplied with a complete set of spare parts so that maintenance work can be carried out quickly and downtime is minimized.
A strong customer focus and commitment to business growth and continuous improvement make Konecranes an industry leader in lifting technology. This is underpinned by investments in digitization and technology as well as our work to make the material flow more efficient with solutions that decarbonise the economy and promote circular economy and safety.
