Vehicle valuation and automotive research company Kelley Blue Book recently added the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 to their list of the top 10 best SUVs on sale today.

As Kelley Blue Book points out, the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 is the most powerful full-size pickup that General Motors makes, alongside the Sierra AT4’s corporate cousin, the Chevy Silverado 1500 Trail Boss. To that end, the GMC Sierra AT4 includes a list of upgrades from the standard line of GMC Sierra 1500 pickups, including a factory suspension lift that adds an additional five centimeters of ride height. The AT4 also drives a set of 32-inch Goodyear Duratrac tires and upgraded Rancho shock absorbers. In the nose, the AT4 strokes the front apron to offer additional off-road mobility on steep inclines.

Other upgrades to the GMC Sierra AT4 include a two-speed transfer case, locking rear differential, hill descent control, high capacity intake, integrated dual exhaust, and a set of skid plates to protect the greasy parts underneath.

Kelley Blue Book recognized not only the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4, but also the 2021 Chevy Colorado ZR2 in its list of currently best off-road trucks.

“It’s a solid package that fits nicely between a more extreme Raptor or TRX and a standard 4×4 pickup,” writes Kelley Blue Book of the Sierra 1500 AT4. “The ride quality on the road and off-road is smooth and the chassis has just enough off-road capability to have fun in the dirt.”

As for engine specification, the GMC AT4 comes standard with the 5.3 liter V8 L84 petrol engine, while the 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 L87 and 3.0 liter I6 LM2 Turbodiesel Duramax are optional. Output is 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque on the L84, 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque on the L87, and 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque on the LM2.

“Our test model was equipped with the excellent 420 hp 6.2-liter V8, the top engine in the Sierra,” writes Matt Degen from Kelley Blue Book. “This big V8 has a healthy growl and the performance from the line is smooth and quick. The 10-speed automatic offers a quick response when accelerating and the power delivery is easy and rewarding. The gear changes are gentle, not abrupt and can be accelerated if you activate the sport driving mode. “
