The crane, a Zoomlion Flat Top, had helped build a 14-story high-rise student dormitory built by Chinese contractor ZJCC (Zhejiang Chengjian Construction Africa) for project manager Acorn Management Services. It was just being dismantled and 10 men were on the crane when the entire top broke out of the tower and fell to the ground.
Seven of the deceased were Kenyan nationals and two were Chinese nationals who appeared to be overseeing the removal of the crane. A tenth man is said to have survived thanks to his harness that dangled him from the tower. He stays in the hospital. The job should be completed and handed over in the next month.

ZJCC issued a statement stating, “We have cordoned off the site and are working with the Kenyan Police Service and the Occupational Safety and Health Directorate to conduct further investigations into the incident in accordance with Kenyan construction site laws and regulations. ”
