An evacuation order for a Kelowna condominium project that went up in flames Tuesday morning has been extended due to concerns about the structural integrity of a tall crane on the property.
“We are working with the City of Kelowna, Emergency Management BC, WorksafeBC, the Kelowna Fire Department, and professional engineers to assess risk, determine the structural integrity of the crane, and resolve the situation as quickly as possible,” Central said Okanagan Sandra Follack, Regional Emergency Program Coordinator.

The evacuation order, which was extended to a radius of 90 meters from the construction site on Wednesday evening, contains the following addresses:
- Units 1-7, 115 Wyndham Crescent
- 129 Wyndham Crescent (the location of the apartment fire)
- Units 123-131, 133 Wyndham Crescent

“Public safety is our number one priority and we are working with the utmost caution to ensure the safety of our residents,” said Follack.

WorkSafeBC has issued a work stop order on the property until the crane can be assessed to ensure that its stability and risk of failure are controlled.
“WorkSafeBC is aware of this incident and we are working with the city fire department and prime contractor to ensure the safety of the site,” said spokesman Ivy Yuen.
The streets of Glenmore and Union, on which the project is retreating, remain closed to traffic and pedestrians, and there are detours.

The timber frame condominium project was to be a four story building with 50 units.
No one was injured, according to the Kelowna Fire Department
The investigation of the fire has not yet started as the website has not been found to be safe.
