Harry Bains, Minister of Labor, made the following statement:
“I am deeply saddened to hear of the terrible incident involving a construction crane in Kelowna today. My thoughts go with the workers affected, and I offer my condolences to the families, friends and staff of the victims.
“Every worker has the right to return home safely at the end of the day, and I feel terrible for my loved ones and colleagues who have been affected by this tragedy.
“All workers have the right to a safe and healthy workplace – even an injury or death is too much. This is a heartbreaking reminder that we must strive to keep all workers safe to prevent such incidents.
“I would like to thank the rescue personnel and the investigators who are now on site. Authorities like WorkSafeBC, the BC Coroners Service and the RCMP are now investigating. We’ll have more to say as soon as more details become known. “
