CHICAGO – A 31-year-old man died Wednesday in a warehouse in Archer Heights, on the southwest side.

Jose Merchan fell from a “cherry picker,” a crane used to raise and lower people, in a warehouse at 4308 W. 44th St. around 1:00 p.m. Another person who fell was seriously injured.

The Chicago police were unable to provide any details about the incident. An autopsy determined Merchan’s death was an accident, according to the Cook County’s medical examiner’s office.

The labor protection agency confirmed on Friday that it has opened an investigation into the incident against Why Not Iron Inc., a self-described “custom architectural and structural metals company”.

Why not? Eisen could not be reached for comment on Friday afternoon.
