Video footage and inspection photos show the risk of simply placing a large crawler crane on a barge and sending it off to sea.

We know the incident took place off the coast of Vietnam earlier this month. It appears that the boom / boom was not lashed down when the swell started to rise.

It’s a little painful to watch and the damage to the crane is considerable, but luckily it could have been a lot worse. We believe the crane is a Demag CC6800, which it appears to be owned by a relatively well-known Dutch company, but we have not been able to confirm this and so we will not mention it. In addition to the damage to the crane, the swaying luffing jib made short work of destroying a container or two on the barge. Below are some photos that show the damage to the crane.
